- Notes: Tapestry Singers will perform the Mozart Requiem and Bach’s Cantata no. 106 with a full orchestra on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 at the Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta. One of Bach’s earliest compositions (at age 22), Cantata No. 106 was most likely written for the funeral of Bach’s uncle. It is a devout and sensitive work and full of optimism for the afterlife. The crowning conclusion of Mozart’s celebrated life, his Requiem is one of classical music’s most intriguing stories. Five months before his death, Mozart was commissioned by an anonymous stranger to write a Requiem Mass. Delirious with fever and convinced he was writing his own funeral music, Mozart died before his Requiem was complete. The Tapestry Singers joins a full orchestra for a powerful performance of Mozart’s final musical statement.
