- Notes: Join Sean Fleming and his 8-piece Dam’ Rag Scotta Orchestra for the “Real Ragtime Concert,” a collection of classic, early 20th century Rag tunes, on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 7:00 pm. Performed in the original styles and tempos rarely heard today, the concert will feature compositions by Europe & Dabney, Gershwin, Hayden, Joplin, Lamb, Morton, Scott, and Shepherd. Included will be several works from the “Red Back Book,” a collection of Ragtime orchestral arrangements published in the early 1900s. Upbeat favorites such as Joplin’s “The Entertainer,” “Maple Leaf Rag,” and “The Easy Winners” will be mixed with slower pieces such as Lamb’s “Ragtime Nightingale” and Joplin’s “Solace.” The dancers Carol Cirigliano and Carol Teel will be featured in solo numbers, and an the audience will also have a chance to learn a Ragtime dance, the “Castle Walk.” The piano solos “Jelly Roll Blues” and “Finger Buster,” early jazz pieces by Morton, will be highlighted. This concert is sure to be a favorite for people of all ages! Young children will be welcomed! The Dam’ Rag Scotta Orchestra consists of the very talented musicians Chuck McGregor, bass; Richard Francis, cello; Mitch Kihn, clarinet; Allen Millett, drums; Linda Brunner, flute and piccolo; Carol Preston and Carolyn MacDonald, violins; and Sean Fleming, piano. Come and help usher in the start of the spring season in the historic Watt’s Hall, at 174 Main Street in Thomaston.
