- Notes: With the first day of spring behind us…it is time to plant the seeds for the summer musical at the Waldo Theatre: The Secret Garden. Based on the 1911 classic children’s novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the musical tells two stories, the story of young, orphaned Mary Lennox as she arrives at the gloomy Misselthwaite Manor and the second of the love between Archibald and Lily Craven. Lily died 10 years ago and Archibald is still overcome by his grief. The management of his estate, Misselthwaite, is largely left to his brother, Dr. Neville Craven. The house haunted by the ghost of Lily, now joined by Mary’s parents, Rose and Albert Lennox as well as the Ayah, Fakir and the officers all ghosts of Mary’s past from India. Left on her own, Mary discovers her bedridden cousin, Colin, servants Martha, Dickon and Ben Weatherstaff and ultimately the Secret Garden. Her own personality blossoms as she brings new life to the neglected garden, as well as to her sickly cousin and Uncle Archie. Directed by Susan Ghoreyeb with vocal direction by Aaron Robinson and orchestra conducted by Sean Fleming, performance dates for The Secret Garden will be July 26, 27 and August 2, 3 at 7:30 pm with Sunday matinees on July 28 and August 4th at 2:00pm.
